Talk ‘n Text Through To Semis After Shackling Barangay Ginebra In Knockout Clash
Interaksyon.com, Tuesday, 16-Dec-2014

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters shackled Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the fourth quarter as they ensured their entry into the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals after an 83-67 dismantling of the Kings on Tuesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Talk ‘N Text held their opponents to a measly nine-point output in the fourth quarter and closed the game out with an 8-0 run that sealed the game.

Jayson Castro scored 23 points and dished out five assists to lead the Tropang Texters.

Ranidel De Ocampo chipped in with 17 points from off the bench while rookie Matt Ganuelas-Rosser had 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and four blocks in a well-rounded effort.

With the win, Talk ‘N Text advanced to a best-of-seven series with the San Miguel Beermen in the semis.

Castro put his work in early, scoring 13 points in the first half before coming out of the break on fire.

He hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the period before knocking down a pair of free throws to score Talk ‘N Text’s first eight points in the third quarter.

Castro, a recent addition to the PBA’s list of 40 Greatest Players, had 21 of his game-high total by the 9:23 mark of the third quarter.

The Tropang Texters didn’t need him to score a single point, though, in a 10-2 run that pushed the lead up to double figures, 64-54, late in the third. They entered the final 12 minutes of the game ahead, 65-58.

It was the Talk ‘N Text defense that took over in the fourth, putting the clamps on Ginebra’s offense.

The Kings got to as close as five points, 69-64, with 8:39 minutes remaining. The Tropang Texters, though, would only give up three points the rest of the way.

Ginebra would go scoreless for almost three minutes before LA Tenorio broke the drought at the 5:40 mark. Japeth Aguilar added one more point off a split from the free throw line with 4:14 left to play.

That was the last point they would score, though, as Talk ‘N Text finished the game off with eight straight points.

Ganuelas-Rosser and Harvey Carey each completed a three-point play and the pair combined for another basket as Ganuelas-Rosser found Carey for a dunk in the final minute.

The scores:
