Ginebra Delights Fans In Dubai, Drubs Rain Or Shine For 2nd Win
Interaksyon.com, Saturday, 23-May-2015

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel treated their overseas fans with an impressive showing after a 93-81 victory over Commissioner’s Cup runner-up Rain or Shine on Friday night in Dubai, UAE.

Orlando Johnson led the way with 25 points but the Kings’ local performers had the chance to show their stuff in this one.

Mark Caguioa scored 21 – 16 of those in a sizzling hot first quarter – while LA Tenorio had a nice all-around line of 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.

Japeth Aguilar, playing his first game of the conference, had 15 points and 10 boards while leading the team’s charge in the fourth period.

The Kings led by 20 points in the first half but allowed the Elasto Painters to take the lead in the third quarter. It didn’t matter, though, as the returning Aguilar scored nine points in a final period where Ginebra led by as much as 18 points yet again.

Caguioa started off like a house on fire, scoring 16 big points in the first quarter alone. He had two more than the entire Rain or Shine squad in the period as he led Ginebra to a double-digit lead, 28-14.

The Kings continued to rule in the second quarter, pushing their advantage to the 20-point mark, 43-23, after a three-pointer from Mac Baracael.

But Rain or Shine found some flashes of life, scoring 10 unanswered points, including two putbacks from import Wendell McKines. The run didn’t end there, though, as the Elasto Painters continued to charge until Paul Lee nailed a triple that brought them to within four, 46-42, in the final minute of the half.

Caguioa, who had been quiet in the second quarter, was the one to come up big for Ginebra again, knocking down a three with nine-tenths of a second remaining to give his team a seven-point lead, 49-42, at the break.

The Ginebra veteran had 19 points on 8-for-11 in the first half while their import Johnson had 10.

McKines took over for Rain or Shine in the third as he put his team over the hump, taking their first taste of the lead at the 7:22 mark of the period at 55-54. The import dunked the ball to give the Elasto Painters a three-point lead, 59-56, at the halfway point of the third before Ginebra made its move.

Tenorio gave his team a huge lift with a floater and a trey that sparked a 15-6 Ginebra run to close the period.

McKines scored 16 in the quarter but Johnson scored the last four points of the quarter to make it 71-65 for his team.

Johnson opened the final period with two more points and Tenorio sank another from long range to make it 76-65 in favor of the Kings.

Aguilar, who missed the team’s first few games due to an injured hamstring, had his moment in the fourth quarter.

He rattled off nine unanswered points for Ginebra, including two off a nice pump fake for an and one in the post. He also crashed the offensive glass for some second chance points and even swatted McKines on the other end.

Ginebra led, 90-73, with 3:13 after Aguilar’s burst.

The scores:
Ginebra (93) – Johnson 25, Caguioa 21, Tenorio 20, Aguilar 15, Baracael 5, Marcelo 5, Brondial 2, Mercado 0, Urbiztondo 0, Pena 0, Tungalag 0.

Keep it up guys ! We love you !
